A Carer is anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support. Anyone can become a carer; carers come from all walks of life, all cultures and can be of any age. There are more carers in the country than the entire staff of both the NHS, the public and volunteer care services. You play such a vital role as a carer, but what about YOUR needs.
With this in mind, the PPG approached the Practice Manager about setting up a Carer’s Café. We wanted to hold it at one of the surgeries as this would be familiar surroundings and, make life easier for patients, carers to attend. Very kindly, we were offered the facilities of Rose Court on a Friday afternoon. Everyone who attended enjoyed our inaugural tea, held on Friday 20th May.
This is an opportunity to meet other carers in a familiar environment, alongside a cup of tea or coffee and a piece of cake. All carers, ex-carers are warmly encouraged to come, and you are very welcome to bring the person you care for. These “Cafes” will be held the first and third Friday of each month, between 1.30 and 3.30. Feel free to drop in for a quick cuppa, or stay longer and chat RSVP by calling 01709 364990 or 01709 541982 or leave your details at reception for the week you wish to attend. We look forward to welcoming you.
Have you filled in a Carer’s Form yet? Please make sure the Practice has your up to date information, this will enable them to inform you of any special events we put on for you. If you would like to volunteer your services, we would be pleased to hear from you, please contact the Practise. If you would like to volunteer your services, we would be pleased to hear from you. Contact reception, or leave a message in the suggestion box and someone will get back to you.
The PPG are very grateful to the Partners and the Practice Manager for all their support, encouragement. Widening the service and developing the sense of community within our own surgeries. This has been a dream come true for us.
